Kai-awase is the Heian court game this whole genre descends from. Clam shells were split and both halves painted with the same scene; only the true pair fits together. The motifs here are the ones those shells actually carried.

How to play

At the start of each round, all cards are revealed for a few seconds. After they flip face-down, tap two cards at a time. Matching pairs stay face-up. Non-matching pairs flip back after a short delay.

Objective

Clear the board by finding all matching pairs with the fewest flips possible.

Strategy tips

1. During the reveal phase, don't try to memorize everything: focus on one corner or one row. Partial memory beats scattered guessing.
2. Anchor cards by position: think "the star was top-left" not just "there's a star." Spatial memory is stronger than abstract recall.
3. When you flip an unknown card and it doesn't match, pause before the second card: scan for the location of what you just saw before committing.
